Tauranga City Council Web Analytics

A challenge all councils face is presenting information online in a way that’s user-friendly for the majority of people, so that call centres don’t come under pressure. Tauranga City Council recognised that being able to successfully analyse user data to identify opportunities for improvement is essential for ongoing website efficiency.

Cucumber was asked to train Tauranga City Council’s web team on how to use Google Analytics. To ensure quality training was delivered in the most cost-efficient way, Cucumber invited two other local government organisations to participate. Both accepted, so costs were spread between three organisations.

Cucumber ran two workshops. The first focused on ensuring business users understood the capability of the tool and how data could drive good decisions. The second workshop taught technical teams how to configure their Google Analytics accounts, so they’d be able to capture the right data and develop valuable reports. The training equipped participants with everything they needed to know for deploying Google Analytics effectively within their own organisation.

WHAT WAS INVOLVED

  • Finding a ‘critical mass’ of participants, to keep training costs down
  • Developing and running two training workshops – one for business users, one for technical users
  • Furnishing participants with useful takeaway resources for ongoing reference

Working with Cucumber to build our in-house skill level and understanding of Google Analytics was a big step towards our organisation gaining useful and relevant web measurement. Their approach was professional and friendly, and the quality of the training given was great value for money
